We're having a party — and you're invited!
The College of Fine Arts and the School of Theatre at Illinois State University are turning 40 this year. We’re going to make it a year you’ll never forget.
Of course, art, music, theatre, and dance all were important parts of Illinois State since 1857, but 1970 was the official start of the College of Fine Arts, combining Art and Music with the new Department of Theatre (which came from Communications). Dance moved to the School of Theatre in 1994, and Arts Technology became an official program in the College of Fine Arts in 2000.
The 40th Anniversary is a great opportunity to celebrate the past and plan for the future. It's also a time to re-connect with old friends.
We'll be unveiling a new Alumni Hall of Fame, and having a symposium on the creative process. University Galleries will have the largest ever alumni exhibit, and our dancers will perform Martha Graham's "Diversion of Angels." The Madrigal Dinners will celebrate their 55th Anniversary and Gary Griffin will return to direct Merrily We Roll Along. Music will perform commissioned works by alums, and Illinois State University will help us celebrate with a Gala focused on the College of Fine Arts.
There will be over 400 events for the 40th! Here's a partial list that will expand throughout the year.
