Program in Arts Technology
Imagine working with a team of students on a major project using visual, audio, and interactive components; and being able to succesfully design and program all aspects of the project using powerful technical media. This is what students in the Arts Technology program do. Students use digital media to explore areas of traditional creative art making in music, sound, still and moving imagery, and typography to express ideas and solve problems.
Faculty encourage exploration and experimentation across multiple disciplines; as a result, each student is prepared to build a career in the dynamic and everchanging field of creative digital arts. Arts Technology students are prepared to take advantage of career opportunies such as media/web developer, animation designer and programmer, sound designer and editor, and video producer. These opportunities can be found in industries such as, entertainment, advertising, publishing, scientific research, exhibit design, and education; as well as traditional art making such as studio art, music composition, and design for live theatre production. New digital media fields continue to emerge including data visualization and software coding for art and design applications.
Students come to the program with varied backgrounds and wide ranging interests. If this sounds like you, please continue to explore this site for information about applying to the program.

Arts Technology Homecoming Alumni Honoree, Ben Chaykin, set for campus visit October 4th and 5th.
Benjamin Chaykin -- a 2009 Arts Technology: Music graduate from Illinois State University -- is a Creative at Digital Kitchen, an agency that pairs storytelling, content, marketing, emerging technologies and traditional technology re-imagined with a "think-make" point of view. Prior to joining DK, Ben was an Art Director at VML, Inc., one of the largest interactive marketing agencies in the United States.
Ben combines an interest in creating interaction and story based on physical, mechanical, software, and online technologies, music, art, sound, and motion. At VML, Ben developed the "IMP," an interactive tracking and messaging system for public environments. At DK, Ben continues his pursuit of experience design in surprising places to create unexpected results. Some of Ben's more notable projects include the creation of "Protobooth," a modernized 3-D version of the traditional photobooth and the development of "Stanley Piano" -- the world's first interactive player piano which can receive Twitter requests for songs and interact with its local and worldwide virtual audience in real time. Ben has also worked on a wide range of design, ideation, and production projects for Transformers 3, the Dodge Journey's "Search Engine for the Real World" campaign, the Los Angeles Airport, Discovery Channel, Atlantic Lottery, Microsoft XBox, and Adidas.
A native of Kansas, Ben currently resides in Seattle, WA.
