2013 Mid-America Guitar Ensemble Festival
On behalf of the Classical Guitar Society and the School of Music at Illinois State University, we would like to invite you to the 2013 Mid-America Guitar Ensemble Festival. The Festival will be held on the campus of Illinois State University in Normal, Illinois on April 5-7, 2013.
The Mid-America Guitar Ensemble Festival is an annual event hosted by different colleges and universities throughout the region. It was established in 1991 to foster camaraderie and pedagogical exchanges between classical guitar teachers and students; to provide performance and learning opportunities for student ensembles; and to contribute to the overall artistic and cultural enrichment of guitar ensemble audiences. The Festival has also worked to increase the ensemble repertoire through the commissioning of pieces for the festival orchestra, and ensembles have come from as far away as New Mexico, North Carolina, Kentucky and Ohio.
The weekend will consist of masterclasses and a concert by this year’s guest artists, the Texas Guitar Quartet, performances by the participating ensembles, and a workshop on The Shearer Method: a New Common Sense Approach to Teaching Classic Guitar with Multimedia given by Dr. Alan Hirsh. One of the highlights will be the performance on the last day by the Festival Guitar Orchestra featuring the music of Atanas Ourkouzounov and Carlos Rafael Rivera.
Vendors at this year’s festival include Reverie Classical Guitars, Jonathan Marshall Guitars, and Strings by Mail.
The links on the left will provide information regarding registration, lodging, etc. If you have any questions we encourage you to drop us a note and we will be happy to answer them for you.
We look forward to seeing you soon!
