At Illinois State University, we offer a wide variety of study programs within the spectrum of music. Undergraduate programs are available by classical music audition in music education, band & orchestral instrument performance, classical guitar performance, keyboard pedagogy & performance, voice performance, music therapy, composition, music business, musical theater, liberal arts in music, and arts technology.
We offer private instruction to music majors and minors on all wind, brass, and percussion instruments, as well as piano, voice, and strings, including classical guitar. Private instruction is taught to music majors by professors -- not teaching assistants.
High academic and performance standards are expected of all music students. We are proud to be accredited by the National Association of Schools of Music (NASM). Accreditation assures quality and promotes excellence and continuous improvement.
Our music therapy program features a six-month internship at a site approved by the American Music Therapy Association. AMTA is the profession's mechanism to help establish high quality therapist preparation.
Illinois State University offers thirty-seven teacher education programs, including Music Education, and is accredited by the Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE) and the National Council for the Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE) - the profession's mechanism to help establish high quality teacher preparation.
