Liberal Arts Degree
The Bachelor of Arts in Music and the Bachelor of Science in Music for those students searching for a broad-based academic degree.
The Bachelor of Arts or Science degree in music provides an alternative to the professional degree--the Bachelor of Music. The General Education requirement is similar to that specified for all other liberal arts programs.
Studies have shown that many employers have a renewed interest in people with a liberal arts education due to the transferable skills learned in the program. The idea is that a person with a diverse educational background is better equipped to adapt to a rapidly changing world.
B.A./B.S. graduates have found careers in a wide variety of occupations, often but not always dealing with the field of music. The B.A./B.S. is the obvious choice for a person who wishes to study music but does not want to be limited to music as a career choice.
Required courses in the plan of study are divided into general education courses, music courses and electives. The B.A. requires foreign language whereas the B.S. requires an additional science course.
