Audition Information
The 2013-14 Dance auditions will be held only at Illinois State University — on Saturday, September 28, 2013; Monday, November 11, 2013; Saturday, February 22, 2014; and Friday, April 4, 2014 (not for scholarship consideration).
All prospective Dance Performance or Dance Education students should prepare a solo dance or variation of their choice in any style.
- Solos should be two to three minutes in length and can feature the choreography of the applicant or another choreographer.
- Dancers should bring a CD or cassette if they wish to use musical accompaniment. If an I-pod is preferred, please have a CD as a
backup recording.
- Each student must provide his or her own solid-color leotard and tights (without feet) and ballet shoes.
- The admission audition will consist of a technique class including
ballet barre and center work, and short modern or contemporary
movement phrases.
- Individual solos and interviews with each candidate will follow the technique class.
Dance applicants must also submit the following materials. Please bring these with you — do not send them ahead of time.
- A resume detailing your training and performance experience.
- A 4x6 full-length photo in first arabesque.
Major considerations in the audition are:
- Rhythmic clarity
- Fluidity of movements
- Alignment
- Broad stylistic choices
- Familiarity with dance vocabulary
- Basic skills
- Strength and coordination
- Kinesthetic and spatial awareness
- Technical and artistic potential
