Acclaim for Our Program
The School of Theatre and Dance is known for the excellence and diversity of the plays, musicals and dance concerts we present. On three occasions, Illinois State University has been invited by the National American College Theatre Festival to showcase one of our productions at the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C.
Many of our Acting students have found success at the regional and national levels of the prestigious Irene Ryan Acting Competition. Our Design students also have competed successfully at the national level. Student- and faculty-choreographed dance pieces are adjudicated at the American College Dance Festival in the spring of each year and repeatedly win high marks.
Terry Kinney, actor, stage and film director, and co-founder of Chicago's Steppenwolf Theatre Company, has said, "Everything I ever achieved as an artist was due to the training and education I got right here at Illinois State."
