Illinois State University's advanced women's choir is comprised mostly of undergraduate vocal music majors, along with graduate students and non-majors. The varied repertoire of Belle Voix divides into (up to) eight parts, and notes are learned through music literacy and solfege, rather than through rote and repetition. The course number for Belle Voix is MUS 186A02.
Fall 2021 Auditions
Incoming soprano and alto music majors with a vocal emphasis are automatically placed in Belle Voix as their ensemble placement. Non-majors will need to complete an audition in order to enroll. Auditions will take place on Sunday, August 15 and Monday, August 16 by individual appointment. Non-majors interested in scheduling an audition should email director Mark Grizzard.
An audition consists of:
Warming up on range exercises to determine the highest and lowest notes you can sing comfortably.
Singing "My Country Tis of Thee" with piano accompaniment. (Sheet music and accompaniment will be provided.)
Sight-reading a short melody in a major key, unaccompanied. The use of solfege syllables is preferred but not mandatory.
