The annual Illinois State University Jazz Festival is the highlight of the year for jazz on campus. In addition to a competition between numerous high school and junior high jazz ensembles, the festival features two evening showings of a collaborative performance by ISU Jazz Ensembles with a renowned guest artist. The 2020 festival will feature trombone virtuoso and composer Michael Davis.
Past guests have included Chuck Owen, Jack Wilkins, Dennis Mackrel, Dick Oatts, Randy Brecker, Marshall Gilkes, Dave Pietro, Wayne Bergeron, Steve Wiest, Ernie Watts, Eric Marienthal, Marvin Stamm, John Fedchock, Byron Stripling, Denis DiBlasio, Benny Golson, Bobby Shew, John Scofield, Brandford Marsalis, and Count Basie.
The Friday night concert will be held at 8 p.m. The Saturday concert will be held earlier this year finishing up by 7 p.m. or earlier. Final details of the schedule will be determined as registrations are received and will be posted approximately two weeks prior to the festival.
