We hear original music content everywhere via video games, films, television shows, or online media. Students interested in creating original music composition content for new media such as these should major in New Media Composition.
Students take classes from faculty of both the School of Music and the Arts Technology Program. They will have the opportunity to have original compositions for acoustic instruments read by large ensembles such as the Illinois State University Symphony Orchestra, Illinois State University Wind Symphony, and the Illinois State University choral ensembles. In addition, they will take courses from Arts Technology faculty on the latest technology topics in sound editing, sound design, and virtual reality programming.
New Media Composition students are able to receive readings and performances by world-class guest artists and student ensembles and work with Arts Technology faculty on cutting edge technology projects in sound design, virtual reality environment design, and multi-media composition.
Additional information about the composition program at Illinois State University is available on our informational poster.
