The Festival opens with a concert featuring the Illinois State University Symphony Orchestra and Illinois State University choruses. Professor Glenn Block conducts the ISU Symphony Orchestra in a performance of the winning work in this year’s Composition Competition for Orchestra, as well as the premiere of Sydney Hodkinson’s Clarinet Concerto, with faculty clarinetist David Gresham. The ISU Concert Choir and Madrigal Singers, conducted by Professor Karyl Carlson, perform the winning piece in the Composition Competition for Chorus. Works by distinguished guest composers Chen Yi and Eric Moe will also be featured.

Fifth House Ensemble and Iridium Saxophone Quartet present a concert of premieres by the participants in the RED NOTE New Music Festival Composition Workshop.
Iridium Quartet performs 21st-century compositions for saxophone quartet, including works commissioned by Iridium.
