Expanded Media
Overview
Expanded Media courses in the Wonsook Kim School of Art focus on the creation, installation, and critique of studio artworks using a range of computer technologies and digital fabrication tools. Students move fluidly among digital and traditional mediums as their work shifts between the physical and the virtual world.
The Expanded Media discipline is a blend of technical skills and cognitive ability. Students become proficient in a wide range of computer-based inputs (i.e. 3D scanners, programming languages, computer vision, industry standard software) in addition to varied methods of computer-based output and physical construction (i.e. 3D printing/rapid prototyping, laser cutters, electronic circuitry). The mastery of these techniques is paired with strong conceptual frameworks in order to create successful works of art.
