Biography

Katherine Cosenza Starr holds her Master of Music in vocal performance from DePaul University and her Bachelor of Music in vocal performance from Illinois State University. Within the last decade, Katherine has taught with the DePaul Community Music Division, Hoogland Center for the Arts, MV Studios, and through her private studio. Recently she made her international debut singing Dorabella with Opera Neo and The Tijuana Cultural Center’s production of Così fan tutte (Mozart). Other recent roles include Donna Elvira in Don Giovanni (Mozart), Amastre in Serse (Handel), Ruggiero in Alcina (Handel), and Captain Hook in Peter Pan (Charlap). Known for her versatility and comedic timing, Katherine is a crossover singer and lover of the musical theatre genre. In Opera Neo’s 2024 Cabaret The San Diego Story stated “Whether she is Amy in Sondheim’s Company, the bickering Edith in Frankel’s Grey Gardens, or Adelaide in Loesser’s Guys and Dolls, Cosenza confidently belts in the magnificent Merman tradition, and the audience does not miss a single note or syllable.”
