Now in its eleventh season, the RED NOTE New Music Festival at Illinois State University is a week-long event which features outstanding performances of contemporary concert music. Highlights of past seasons include appearances by Ensemble Mise-en, City of Tomorrow, Momenta Quartet, Orchid Ensemble, Fulcrum Point New Music Ensemble, Color Field Ensemble, Spektral Quartet, Del Sol Quartet, loadbang, and Ensemble Dal Niente. Featured guest composers have included Stephen Hartke, Steven Stucky, Joan Tower, Lee Hyla, Sydney Hodkinson, and Augusta Read Thomas. RED NOTE also holds an annual Composition Competition which brings in entries from around the world. Program information from past festivals can be viewed on the Events page.
This year, we are pleased to host featured guest composers William Bolcom and Gabriela Lena Frank and guest ensemble Onix Ensamble, who will lead a Student Composers Workshop open to all student composers. For three days, participants will work with Professor Bolcom and Ms. Frank and the guest ensemble, as well as resident composers Martha Horst, Roy Magnuson, and Carl Schimmel. The Workshop will culminate in a concert of the participants' compositions on Thursday, March 29, 2018.
Details about the various events of the Festival will soon be available at the Events page.
