Film Studies

The Minor in Film Studies is designed for students who are majoring in another field, but wish to do some concentrated work in film studies. The 18-credit (6 courses) program provides students with a broad introduction to the field of film studies, including film history, genre, international cinema, and the creative process of filmmaking.

Why Study Film Studies?

Film Studies encourages students to discover and examine film as an artistic and creative cultural artifact. The minor complements many areas of study, especially those majors which emphasize critical thinking and media and cultural studies. This program prepares students with fundamental knowledge to enter careers in the media, cultural and creative industries or to pursue film or visual cultural studies at a graduate level.

Application Information

Minors can only be declared by current Illinois State students. Current students can use the Apply to Your Program tool on My.IllinoisState.edu.
