Overview
The Illinois State University marching band, the Big Red Marching Machine (BRMM), has a long and proud history. Since its inception with Professor Ed Livingston, BRMM has developed into an accomplished marching band performing at major events at home and abroad.
Each year, the “Big Red” performs at home football games, exhibition performances around the state of Illinois, and at the State of Illinois High School Marching Band Championship. The “Big Red” has performed in events across the United States and Ireland including the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade and the Dublin St. Patrick’s Day Parade in Dublin, Ireland.
In addition to the regular rehearsal schedule, weekly assigned sectionals occur throughout the season. Additional instruction through the BRMM Leadership Team is also available, and any student wanting additional assistance will have the opportunity.
The “Big Red” represents almost every major on campus and welcomes all students. Come and be a part of BRMM!

BRMM Auxiliaries
The Big Red Marching Machine Auxiliary Teams are open to all Illinois State University students by audition. During the fall semester, the Color Guard, Drumline, Redline Express Dance Team, and Twirlers function as sections within the Big Red Marching Machine (BRMM). The BRMM Auxiliary Teams attend all rehearsals (including pre-season Band Camp) and performances with the Big Red Marching Machine, appearing at all home football games, parades, and other BRMM performances. In addition to the regular rehearsal schedule, the Auxiliary Teams hold an additional weekly sectional. The times for sectionals are determined at the start of the semester according to the schedules of the members and staff.
Summer Schedule
Each Auxiliary Team will have summer camps. These meetings are not strictly required, but members are expected to attend if available. Those unable to attend will be provided with video assignments to make sure they are keeping pace with the group. These meetings are integral to our ability to refine what we will be performing throughout the season.
