I CAN'T CONTROL THESE URGES

This is a collaborative show between 3rd year MFA painting and ceramic students Ilse Miller and Madelyn Turner-Havens. This exhibition navigates the interconnections between their work, both in media and content. Miller and Turner-Havens' work centers around different aspects of obsession—desire, intimacy, bodies, bodily urges, and compulsions. 
 
In an attempt to accept the unknown, their work focuses on intuitive and automatic processes. They hold no standards to the work, only the process. As the two confront the paradox of order and chaos to navigate the cycle of obsession and compulsion that surrounds the mind and body, they allow the compulsive urges a space to breathe and play within the work by using media such as painting, drawing, and sculpture. The work does most of the talking for them, albeit without actual language.
