Artist statement:

To touch. To feel. An amazing thing to be able to experience. The sensation of objects in your hands, feeling the texture or lack thereof, and how one texture can experience another texture. Two contrasting things meeting each other in the middle is something that is truly exciting; I make, change, and interact with objects. I am curious about how they can exist in a space together and what that means in the overall piece. A big part of my practice is finding objects in nature that both are and are not meant to be there, such as a rusty metal pipe and an interestingly shaped branch. Taking these items and creating a space in which they are allowed to interact and have a new meaning and purpose is something that is very special to me, especially with the items that are just discarded onto the ground like trash; they were never meant to be anything more than what they were. While working, I do not plan for the finished product; the process is the art for me. Whatever that may produce is secondary. The action I take to touch, feel what I am working with, and what I do first versus second is what matters the most.
