The Bassoon studio at Illinois State is a diverse and talented group of individuals. The studio is comprised of approximately 10 students from all walks of life. Whether you are a music student or have a serious interest in bassoon, there is a a place for you. There are many different opportunities to learn and grow as a bassoonist at Illinois State.
Each student takes a private lesson each week with the professor.
In addition, there is a weekly “master class” session during which a variety of activities take place. There may be student performances, bassoon ensemble rehearsals, or guest appearances.
What is more, we have a chamber ensemble program in which you will have the opportunity to perform woodwind quintets and other literature. Each chamber ensemble is coached by a full time faculty artist.
“The reed is the key which opens the door to bassoon playing.” My students jump right into reed making from the start of the Illinois State experience. I will guide you and help you to acquire the necessary training and tools. Necessary tools are available to studio members while the student will have to provide materials, at a minimal price.
