Illinois State University trumpet studio members hone their professionalism through the development of musicianship.

Studio Details

  • Private Lessons

    Each trumpet major has one lesson per week with the trumpet professor and is part of a group master class once a week. The lessons work on musicianship, technique, sound and other fundamentals.

  • Master Class

    Master classes include presentations given by the professor or a guest artist covering various topics such as breathing, how to practice, etc., provide performance opportunities for trumpet students, and serve as rehearsal time for the trumpet ensemble. Master classes are provided to the students in the trumpet studio one to two-times per week.

Past Guest Artists

Each year we strive to bring at least one guest artist to campus for a masterclass and recital in order to enhance the learning experience in the School of Music. Past artists have included:

    Associate Principal Trumpet, Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra (1964-1996) and Professor Emerita of Trumpet, Rice University

    Trumpet player with singer Anderson East and freelance musician in Nashville, TN
