The Big Red Marching Machine Drumline is open to all Illinois State University students. During the fall semester, the Drumline functions as a section of the Big Red Marching Machine (BRMM), appearing at all home football games, parades, and other BRMM performances, and also performs independently at select campus events. Learn more about becoming a member of the Big Red Marching Machine.
The BRMM Drumline attends all rehearsals (including pre-season Band Camp) and performances with the Big Red Marching Machine. In addition, each week the Drumline also holds a 90-minute sectional rehearsal, and each sub-section holds its own one-hour rehearsal—the times for these rehearsals are determined at the start of the semester according to the schedules of members and staff. If you are willing to put in the time and energy to learn the music and participate in rehearsals and performances, there is a spot for you. The selection process for snare drum, tenor, and bass drum is competitive.
Instrumentation consists of snare drums, multi-tenors, tonal bass drums, and cymbals.
Summer Schedule
The BRMM Drumline will meet twice during the summer to rehearse music. These meetings are not strictly required, but members are expected to attend if available. Those unable to attend will be given video assignments to make sure they are keeping pace with the group. These meetings are integral to our ability to refine music that we will be performing throughout the season.
