The Illinois State University voice faculty is comprised of music professionals with varied performance backgrounds in opera, recital, and concert. They have performed nationally and internationally throughout the United States, Canada, and Mexico in addition to Europe, South America, Asia, Africa, the United Kingdom, and the Middle East.
Students receive weekly private lessons with voice faculty, in addition to semimonthly master classes and area recitals. An emphasis on Classical vocal production, vocal technique, foreign languages and lyric diction, breathing, vocal health, style and musicianship will be applied through the study of appropriate repertoire.
Students may perform on voice area recitals and monthly School of Music convocation recitals throughout the semester.
Performance on master classes will be assigned by the instructor. Master classes are taught by guest artists from around the world, who frequently have established relationships with faculty of the voice area and who may be alumni of Illinois State University. These master clinicians address a range of concerns for the young and emerging vocal artist. Student participation is encouraged through constructive criticism. Additionally, each Illinois State University voice faculty member teaches their own bi-weekly master class throughout every semester, facilitating consistent performance opportunities within each studio.
